Ben T asked:
Now, my brother put my mum’s mobile in the microwave, he is only 2, so it is understandable
But what would actually happen inside of the phone? She has a memory card in there also, so would it wipe the photos and data from it?

If you turned the microwave on it could arc and damage the phone and the microwave.

Your mum might have conniptions…and you might be in trouble…

Nothing at all will happen.
BUT if you turn the microwave ON, then the phone will be destroyed.

No, it would melt the chip, and then the data would still be there but irretrievable.

This is what happens to a mobile in a microwave

It may scramble circuity; placing calls, forwarding text messages and photos, having a general mind of its own. You wouldn’t want the phone to send sensitive texts or photos to people who they aren’t intended for now, would you?
This could be embarrassing for your mum. Technology + Radiation is a scary thing.

It would brick the phone, and render the memory card inert.
Why, are you hiding something on the card?
Comment by Zooey — December 24, 2009 @ 2:36 am
it will bw damaged from the inside because a microwave ovens heats items from the inside and this will cause the cell phone’s inside to heat up. Then maybe the battery and sim would break and you know what that means
Comment by friendlyuser101 — December 24, 2009 @ 1:14 pm
it depends on what ur brother did after that. if the oven remained in the normal temperature then it wouldn’t effect in any manner. but if it was heated up after that then there r so many circuitries which may get affected by the heat not only the memory card. well for safety purpose u should remove all the data as soon as possible. if the problem of flickering of the screen or repeated automatic shutting down of the mobile comes after this, then go for mobile servicing. but most prbbly it wudn’t happen ‘coz now a days mobiles r manufactured of semiconductors which can withstand heat better than metals. usually mobile phones can stand the temperatures upto 80 degrees except fr the fractional hype upto 200 degrees. hope ur phone didn’t go upto that severity.

the electronics would fry and the phone will catch fire. the phone will obviously die. getting the data back – impossible. that will be least of your worries, better make sure ur house doesnt burn down first.

If you were to call someone up then put the phone in the microwave and turn it on. The person who is on the phone when you do it gets microwaves in their ear, so don’t do it you can hurt somebody!
